Our approach

In April 2002 Westway and Acton housing associations launched a Strategic Alliance the key aims of which are to:

  • Develop homes to meet the needs of ethnically diverse communities
  • Share resources
  • Strengthen partnership working

Acton has acted as Westway\'s development agent since August 2001 completing 3 schemes started by Westway. Westway is no longer developing sites in its own name but rather is taking transfer of completed units from Acton.

Westway\'s involvement in the Alliance as a BME (black and minority ethnic) association has strengthened Acton\'s position when bidding for new developments. In addition Acton\'s Marketing and Public relations staff have assisted with Westway\'s Annual Report and scheme openings and their Human Resources staff provide advice to Westway.

Westway\'s alliance with Acton is not exclusive and the association has recently taken transfer of homes from PCHA

This website, and particularly the on-line repairs reporting, was developed a part of a project by the BME Apex Group comprising of Westway, Inquilab and New World HAs. This project, funded by a Housing Corporation Innovation and Good Practice Grant, produced versions of the on-line repairs reporting translated into two of main languages of Inquilab and New World\'s tenants (Gujarati and Cantonese).

The methodology developed by our IT partners Premier IT and Redsmoke is being made available to other organisations, not just housing associations, as a means of translating any on line information into non-western character sets without the need to download the character sets.
